Keep the inside dry
Small setup decisions make a damp evening easier, even when the forecast changes.
Start with the ground
Choose an established, well-drained pitch. Keep a groundsheet tucked under the tent rather than protruding beyond it, where it can collect rain. Do not dig drainage trenches.
Give the fly some space
Pitch the rainfly as designed and keep it clear of the inner tent. Use guy lines where needed without creating a trip hazard. Open the intended vents to help moisture escape.
Separate wet from dry
Keep wet footwear near the entrance without blocking the exit. Use dry bags for sleep clothes and bedding. A small cloth helps manage condensation without soaking other gear.
Dry everything at home
Unpack promptly after the trip. Air the tent and sleeping kit until completely dry before storage. Check seams, zips and stakes while the experience is still fresh.
